Floreşti este cea mai mare comună din România, din punct de vedere al populaţiei. La recensământul din anul 2011, aceasta avea înregistrate 21.827 de persoane, dar astăzi, după 11 ani, se pare că numărul a ajuns către 50.000. Este o localitate veche, atestată documentar de 750 de ani, deşi se pare că istoria sa merge până în neolitic. În acest prim material despre Floreşti, istoricul clujean Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici ne povesteşte despre istoria numelui celei mai mari comune a ţării.

„Fondată” de ciobanul Feneşel

„Comuna Floreşti, cunoscută în documente ca Feneşu Săsesc, este amintită încă din anul 1272, dar, sigur, ea existând şi înainte. A fost o localitate care apaţinea episcolului catolic de Alba Iulia. Vizavi de numele pe care îl poartă astăzi, trebuie să amintim că până în anul 1924 era o localitate cunoscută sub numele de Feneşul Săsesc.

Este o poveste foarte frumoasă, o legendă, cu un ciobănaş numit Feneşel, care îşi păştea turmele pe aici, cântând cu un fluier fermecat – spune povestea – de şi Someşul se oprea şi murmurau pădurile, văile şi florile care erau aici.

Având în vedere că era o zonă foarte bogată, dar nepopulată, gândurile acestui ciobănaş au fost să se facă o localitate aici, o localitate cu oameni frumoşi. Şi, într-adevăr, această localitate s-a făcut, – iar aici vorbim de adevăr, nu de legendă – marea majoritate a locuitorilor ei venind de la munte”, spune Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici.

Floreşti, de la flori şi valea florilor

La un moment dat, bătrânii satului s-au sfătuit ce nume să-i pună localităţii. Având în vedere peisajul, era Valea Florilor. Alţii i-au spus Lunca Someşului. Dar având în vedere că localitatea şi locul a fost descoperit de ciobănaşul Feneşel, au rămas la numele de Feneşel.

„Ulterior, localitatea s-a mărit, s-a lărgit şi a căpătat numele Feneş. Iar din 1924, datorită arealului de care am vorbit adineauri, se va numi Floreşti, până în zilele noastre”, mai spune istoricul clujean.

“Florești, also known as Feneşu Săsesc in documents, has been mentioned since 1272, but, of course, it had existed before that. It belonged to the Catholic bishop of Alba Iulia. Related to the name it bears today, we must know that until 1924 it was known as Feneşul Săsesc.

It is a very beautiful story, a legend, with a shepherd named Feneşel, who used to graze his flocks here, singing with an enchanted whistle and, according to the story, the Someş river would stop and the forests, valleys and flowers that were here would murmur.

Given that it was a very rich area, but unpopulated, the thoughts of this shepherd were to make a locality here, a place with beautiful people. And this happened, indeed, – and here we are talking about the truth, not the legend – the vast majority of its inhabitants having come from the mountains”, Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici says.

Florești, from flowers and the valley of flowers

At some point, the elders wanted to give a name to the village. Taking the landscape into consideration, it was Valley of Flowers. Others called it Lunca Someşului. But since the town and the place were discovered by the shepherd Feneșel, they decided on the name of Feneșel.

„Later on, the locality expanded and became known as Feneş. And in 1924, due to the area we talked about earlier, it was named Florești „, the historian from Cluj adds.
