Una dintre clădirile cele mai vechi ale Clujului este Mănăstirea Franciscană, aflată în zona Pieţei Muzeului, şi care are o istorie de vreo 600 de ani. Dar, pe lângă vechimea ei, clădirea ascunde câteva lucruri mai puţin cunoscute. De exemplu, că aici a fost primul loc al unei şcoli de pe teritoriul actual al României. Tot aici s-a jucat prima piesă de teatru din oraş. Şi o ipoteză: poate fi adevăratul loc de naştere al regelui Matia. Istoricul clujean Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici ne invită prin ascunzişurile istoriei.

Mănăstirea Franciscană, sponsorizată cu sare, valuta epocii. Locul de naştere al lui Matia?

„Aici avem actuala mănăstire franciscană, fostă mănăstire dominicană, o construcţie care reprezintă stilul gotic din secolul al XV-lea. Vedem ancadramentul ferestrelor de afară, sunt ferestre mici, tipice pentru stilul gotic al secolului al XV-lea.

Mănăstrirea este inedită prin faptul că deţine nişte săli extrem de relevante pentru istoria Clujului. În primul rând, are un refectorium, – locul în care luau masa călugării, un loc închis – care este numai pe un stâlp octogonal şi are un loc, un fel de amvon, de unde unul dintre călugări le citea din Biblie celorlalţi care luau masa.
De asemenea, tot în acest loc avem o sală a bibliotecii – aici a fost şi o editură mai târziu, <<Bonaventura>> – dar avem şi o sală a lui Matia Corvin.

De fapt, există o ipoteză cum că marele rege născut în Cluj s-ar fi născut de fapt aici, în această mănăstire, sponsorizată – ca să vorbim într-un termen actual – de către tatăl lui Matia, Iancu de Hunedoara sau Hunyadi Janos. Deci, ar fi sponsorizat cu blocuri de sare. Sarea era valută în acea perioadă”, istoriseşte Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici.

Un alt lucru important pentru Clujul universitar, educat, este că în acest loc a fost prima clădire a unei şcoli de pe teritoriul actual al României. Şi tot aici a avut loc şi prima piesă de teatru din oraş.

„Dar ce mai trebuie să amintim: după ce ajunge religia reformată la putere în Cluj, mănăstirea catolică este desfiinţată şi aici, în 1558, se înfiinţează o şcoală, pe care au frecventat-o unitarieni, şcoală unitariană, reformată. De asemenea, dacă o luăm ca loc de şcoală, este cel mai vechi loc de şcoală din România actuală, 1558. Că era şcoală religioasă, de diferite confesiuni, că a fost liceu de muzică, acum este o şcoală particulară… Dar a fost loc de şcoală.

Şi încă un lucru foarte important care trebuie amintit este că aici, în refectorium, a avut loc o piesă de teatru, jucată de stundeţi de atunci, în faţa unui principe reformat cu vederi foarte înaintate pentru acea vreme, Gabriel Bethlen. Deci, la începutul secolului al XVII-lea, prima reprezentaţie teatrală aici a avut loc în Cluj”, explică istoricul clujean.

One of the oldest buildings in Cluj is the Franciscan Monastery, located in the Museum Square area, and which has a history of about 600 years. But, in addition to its age, the building hides a few lesser-known facts. For example, here was the first school on the current territory of Romania. This is also where the first play in the city was performed. And a hypothesis: it may be the real birthplace of King Matthias. The historian from Cluj, Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici, invites us through the hiding places of history.

The Franciscan Monastery, sponsored with salt, the currency of that era. Matthias’ birthplace?

“Here we have the current Franciscan monastery, former dominican monastery, a building that is representative of the gothic style of the 15th century. We see the frame of the outside windows, they are small windows, typical for the gothic style of the 15th century.

The monastery is unique by the fact that its rooms are extremely relevant to the history of Cluj. First of all, it has a refectory – the place where the monks used to eat, a closed place – which sits only on an octagonal pillar and has a place, similar to the pulpit, where one of the monks used to read from the Bible as the others would eat.

Furthermore, in this place we have a library room, – which, eventually, was transformed into a publishing house, <<Bonaventura>> – and we also have a room which belonged to Matthias Corvinus. In fact, there is a hypothesis that the great king born in Cluj was actually born here, in this monastery, sponsored – so to speak – by his father, John Hunyadi or Hunyadi Janos. It is sponsored with salt, the currency of that time”, Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici says.

The oldest school in Romania. The place where the first play was performed

Another important thing for the academic and educated Cluj is that here was the first building of a school on the current territory of Romania. The first play in the city also took place here.

„It should be remebered: the Catholic monastery was abolished and here, in 1558, a school was established, which was attended by Unitarians, a Unitarian Reformed school, after the religion had come to power in Cluj. It is the oldest school place in the actual Romania, 1558. Over the years, the religious school was of different denominations, it was also a music high school, and now it is a private school, but it was a school place.

And another very important thing to remember is that here, in the refectory, there was a play, performed by some students in front of a reformed prince with very advanced views for that time, Gabriel Bethlen. So, at the beginning of the 17th century, the first theatrical performance also took place there” the historian from Cluj explains.
